I orginally had this book in 2005 and started on the diet.

Everything is set out and explained in a detail and there are lots of recipes too!

Now the saying you never see a fat Postman is mainly true but due to having an illness I wasn`t able to work and piled on the pounds,I was the typical bloke,eating loads of sandwiches,chocolate biccys and fast food,nearly every night it was either chips or mashed potatoes with whatever and hardly any veg,so when my wife bought this book and said it would be better if we both did it I was horrified!

We started the diet,I thought I`d be starving by day one but I NEVER feel hungry now,before I was always snacking or `treating` myself with a sweetie usually a doughnut or biscuit now I don`t even bother with chocolate,my two teenage daughters have loads of it in the fridge and I`m not even tempted!

I appreciate my food alot more now and for people who say it`s not healthy eating,I`ve never eaten as much vegetables as what I do now,also I enjoy fish in the morning now as well for breakfast..much more healthier than Tony the Tiger or new Honey nut cardboard pap.

Have I lost weight?….I was 15st 7lbs back then I`m now 12st which I consider my ideal weight,did it take loads of willpower?…NO,I NEVER felt hungry infact I didn`t even think I was on a diet,if I can lose weight anybody can.

This is the easiest diet Ive ever tried And it works,my husband has been on the diet with me and has lost two stone up until now,myself Ive lost just under two stone in about two to three months.

The best thing is, though, we have both found that there is life without white bread and potatoes, which has always been our downfall on other diets,but the information and recipes in this book have made going without our carb fix easy.WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMEND.

I cannot commend this book enough. In September of last year I tried the previous revision of this book. It was my first attempt at dieting as I, like most people, loved my food but as I was now in my thirties I could no longer eat anything I wanted without taking exercise and feel no effect. My waistline had grown steadily from a loose 32″ to a really tight 34″ (effectively 3 sizes) within around a 3 year period and I didn’t want to go up another waist size and start making excuses about my double chin.

I got some good scales and borrowed the book from a friend who said it would work as it did for him. I weighed 14 stone at the end of September. The next day I stocked up on the food I needed and commenced my diet. I noticed daily waitloss instantly and by the middle of November I weighed 12st 5lbs. I had a couple of business trips away in between these times and didn’t stay on the diet every day. But that’s the beauty of this because you don’t have to punish yourself as it’s effectively a 24hr diet.

You can have a carb fix and be bad some days if you want and the next couple of days be good and you’ll still notice the difference. And by being good I don’t mean eat cardboard and lettuce leaves, you can have cream of chicken soup for lunch, big juicy steaks for supper and the best bit, bacon and fried eggs for breakfast. All this and I could finally get into those jeans and that shirt that I couldn’t look good in before and I felt fantastic. The added bonus here is that I could go out at night with friends regularly and still have alcohol (wine or spirits) and have a great time with them whilst still losing weight.

I hadn’t been watching what I’ve been eating since last November and steadily gained weight from eating all those carbs again and weighed in at 13st 8lbs on Monday last week so I decided to give the new book a go together with the cookbook. I have really gotten into it again and cut out most of the carbs completely. I weighed myself this morning and I’m under the 13st mark! 12st 13.4lbs. I’ve lost more than 8 lbs in less than 7 days. I knew this would work again but I was truly astonished at the speed of the weight loss this time around and I can go another couple of weeks on this and hopefully reach my target of 12st.

Get this book and it will work for you. You have to abstain sometimes and I have virtually no willpower, but believe me, once you see the results you won’t mind and it’ll all be worth it. It’s the best thing for under a tenner I have ever bought.

Admittedly, I got this book because of the cute title. Well, so glad I did. Inside I found a great plan that really does work–if you follow it diligently. It’s not hard to do but it will entail some willpower, which is the hardest part of doing anything. The authors really know what they’re talking about as they, themselves, have gone through the whole many diet disasters familar to most of us. Overall, it’s a fantastic plan and also a good read. Don’t pass it up. Another that I found most useful, also, was Goodbye, Fatty! Hello, Skinny! How I Lost Weight And Still Ate The Foods I Loved-Without Dieting.

I bought this having read the Sunday Times review, read it cover to cover and decided to give it a go, despite having promised myself never to diet EVER again. I am morbidly obese, I have failed at every diet I have tried in the last 10 years. So far this one is working well, I am not hungry (hooray), I am not bored thanks to the additional purchase of the Low Carb Gourmet and I have lost 12lbs in 2.5 weeks with no pain at all. I had a cracking headache on day 3 but apart from that I’ve felt brilliant. I think I am probably wheat and sugar intolerant anyway so this is a better move for me than trying to exclude those things and do low-far as well which has me climbing the walls with hunger within days. If you’ve tried Slimming World before, its like red days but with lashings of butter and cream. Yum!

As others have said its probably not the one for you if you are a veggie or don’t like red meat but being a total carnivore it works well for me. As you go into the final phase, when you only have a stone or so to lose it puts back certain carbs (including chocolate!) slowly into your diet so you are not on this regime for ever although I probably won’t ever go back to croissants and pizza and that’s fine because I’d rather be at the right weight. If you like steak and cheese and eggs and double cream and leafy green veg and olives and deli meats then you will be in seventh heaven with this one.

I found the style really encouraging, unlike any diet book I’ve ever read before and India’s humour mixed with Nerys’ honesty about how she felt were really helpful.

Inspiring but unnnecessarily restrictive, 28 Feb 2007

I agree with other reviewers who say that the great thing about this book is the personal experiences of the authors and the motivational sections. Even though I am not dramatically overweight, I really felt this was a diet book that understood how I felt. I was inspired to start and stick to the diet and lose weight yet again. However, although they admit that the diet advice is really a re-hash of other low-carb diets, and it is right that the right diet is the one that works for you, which basically is the one you can stick to, they are very out of date on their specifc advice as to what to eat and what to avoid in the latter stages. The GI concept has now been refined, so that what matters is the GL, which is a more subtle analysis, which means that many more fruits and vegetables are acceptable in moderation after phase 1, yoghurt is allowed etc. I think this is important, because having followed a low carb diet before, I think the really hard part is not phase 1 or 2 but sticking to something like it for the rest of your life. Also I don’t think it is healthy to omit a whole food group from your diet. Read it for motivation, but for an actual diet plan, try the Greek Doctor’s Diet instead.

I was sceptical about this product to be honest. I’ve learned that when it comes to my body, to change something requires dedication and discipline. I had fat stored in my stomach area (recently had my first child) I used this product for 2 weeks. During every exercise I felt the heat i was generating in my stomach area. I had to re-adjust the slimming belt 3 to 4 times in a 2 hour period because of the water I was losing. In just 2 weeks my stomach fat was greatly reduced and my waist looks way better. I keeping it on even during my housework. WHY NOT! :) I highly recommend it!

Ive gotta say, i cant agree with the last negative review. Ive had this belt for 2 months now and i literally wring the sweat off it after every workout. This belt would fit most people due to its velcro fastening. Its elasticated so you can pull it in real tight. It hides discreetly under clothing so it not noticeable at all. I even wear it when i go for walks or do the gardening. My wife has since even bought one. Definetley would recommened if you’re looking to shed some pounds round the midrift area

I was given this book when I first started taking Alli about 2 months ago. Initially I was put off by that evil word diet but I have been very pleasantly surprised by this book. The recipes are tasty and easy to prepare at home. Most of the food I was eating before I looked at this book was way too high in fat (I thought I had a healthy diet!) Thank God for this book I had to start from scratch and work out a whole new diet -this book made it really simple and what’s better is that I don’t miss my old diet!

I purchased this book after starting taking orlistat to assist me in losing weight. The book was intended to keep me interested in eating healthily and changing my eating lifestyle. Obviously it’s not just the book that can do this but a change in attitude is needed as well and I was ready for this. It was not purchased as a specific diet plan to use whilst losing weight only to go back to my old, weight gaining days. Of course I do want this initially but coupled with carrying on after this goal has been reached. I have tried many diet plans in the past and have steadily put on weight using them; obviously they weren’t for me. This book has been a completely different experience and a good one at that! In the 4 weeks since purchasing the book and using the fantastic recipes within, I have lost 9lbs and this trend looks set to continue.

The book is bursting with information on how to eat healthily, lose weight and maintain it. It also has recipes to suit all tastes. If you are a ‘foodie’ then buy it! It is split into sections of breakfast/brunch, soups, poultry, meat, fish, vegetarian, accompaniments, desserts, baking etc. It even has a section advising on takeaway options or eating on the run, such as how many calories & fat is in a specific sandwich purchased from Markies for example.

The recipes are set out in a way that is very easy to follow, as are the lists of ingredients needed. Also, each recipe gives you the calorie and fat content it contains. If you are concerned about other aspects of your diet, each recipe has a table of contents at the foot of the page which gives you information on the carbohydrate content, salt, portion of fruit & veg etc. There are serving suggestions and storage advice as well.

One thing to think about is that 95% of the recipes are for 2-4 people but the recipes are good to use for the whole family and not just the person wanting to lose weight. I have a fussy 15 year old and he has eaten everything I have cooked from this book. My daughter is 11 months old and with some of the recipes I can even include her, again she has eaten what I have made if suitable for her.

Overall, I highly recommend this book if you are serious about changing bad eating habits and/or wanting to lose weight without feeling like you are ‘on a diet’. It is not a miracle cure #don’t we just wish!# but it can certainly help you on your way to a leaner, fitter, healthier version of you.

Right oh, having read lots of the reviews for this book, some great, some scathing, I decided to write my own review which I hope will help people decide if this is the book they want to follow or not.

First off, I am (unfortunately) a yo-yo dieter. I have tried pretty much everything out there, Atkins, Slimming World, Slim Fast, Weight Watchers, the GI Diet, The Holford Diet, Somersizing, you name it, I have the book. Some of these diets I had no success with, some moderate, and some great! But all the time, and all my own fault, I have put it back on :(

I have only been doing this Dukan Diet for 3 days, even though I bought the book about a month ago! I wanted to make sure I didn’t just ‘jump in’ without really knowing what I was doing. I wanted to read this book properly and really understand it’s concept.

The diet is split into 4 phases, Attack, Cruise, Stabilisation and Consolidation. Obviously only having been on it for 3 days, I can’t talk about the last two parts, or their effectiveness, but the first two I can most definitely comment on!

Attack at first glance is very similar to the Atkins Diet. until you realise that Dr Dukan is only telling you to eat HEALTHY cuts of meat, unlike Dr Atkins who advocated eating all meats, cheeses, creams, anything no matter how high the fat content. Dr Dukan only wants you to eat lean cuts of meat, poultry, fish and pretty much all non or very low fat dairy products. Cheese and cream are out, as are oils of any kind. This might sound harsh, but come on, it’s only for about 5 days depending on how much weight you want to lose! Is that such a price to pay to kick start your diet?

Typically you can eat non fat yoghurts (even fruit ones like Mullerlights!) Cottage Cheese, Quark, Skimmed Milk, Fromage Frais, and all the lean proteins mentioned above. You can also eat eggs quite happily (minus the yolk if you are prone to high cholesterol) and all herbs and spices are freely available. He also ‘prescribes’ oat bran galettes (basically a pancake) because of the roughage they provide to your diet. They are quick and easy to make and really are filling, they do a great job!

In the 3 days I have been doing this diet, I have so far lost 5.5lb’s! I am realistic, a lot of this is water, you can’t lose that much fat so fast! Don’t kid yourself! But weightloss is a state of mind as much as anything, and to see the number on the scales going down is inspiration to keep going!

Phase 2, the Cruise Phase, is very similar to my favourite diet of all time, and the one with which I had the greatest success, The South Beach Diet. On this phase, you can reintroduce certain vegetables to eat with your proteins, and the idea is that you alternate a day of Attack and a day of Cruise. I can really see this working. The South Beach Diet is a really wonderful diet and I had amazing success with it, but I have stopped and started with it so many times, the initial phase has sadly lost it’s effectiveness. My biggest downfall, and I am being honest for the sake of this review, is alcohol. Just stop drinking and you will see weight start to fall off. It is one of the biggest causes of weight problems. I am NOT an alcoholic, just to set the record straight! but I do enjoy a glass of wine, or two, or um, three! And it adds up! You have to decide which you want more, to be slim, or to eat and drink all you want and stay, shall we say, larger than you wish you were?

South Beach does allow use of low fat cheeses, something this diet does not, not until Phase 3. But if you want some great recipe ideas, you can happily use a lot of the recipes from SB on this diet plan, they work together very well. There is a Dukan Diet Recipe Book due out in September, but why wait when SB has lots of books available?

In another review, someone mentions the use of Aspartame and the possible carcinogenic side effects. All I can say is, and this is purely my opinion, if Diet Coke and all the other products that contain Aspartame were so bad, they would have been taken off the shelves by now, or be using an alternative sweetener. Or it would only be sold to over 18′s, like cigarette’s and alcohol. If this does bother you, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot use another sweetener of your choice!

Dr Dukan also ‘prescribes’ that you walk for 20 minutes every day. He says it is not optional, you MUST do it! Well of course, a book cannot make you do anything, it is down to your own willpower to get up off your butt and move! But it is sound advice. Dr Agatston of the South Beach Diet recommends the same. It is only common sense. We all know deep down that the best way to lose weight is to eat less and move more. But in todays world, life is pretty sedentary, and us humans don’t move about like we used to! So we need to make the effort!

A best-seller in France, The Dukan Diet is now getting attention all over. Helping this is the fact that celebs such as Jennifer Lopez and Giselle Bundchen supposedly lost their post-pregnancy pounds on this diet. So who came up with it? Well, The Dukan Diet was created by French physician Pierre Dukan years ago as a treatment for obese people.

In a nutshell, it’s a four-phase, hi-protein, low-cal diet plan. You don’t have to weigh foods or count calories, rather you can eat as much as you want, at any time of day–just so long as what you’re eating is lean protein. And speaking of protein, its the centerpiece in all of the diet’s four phases- along with oat bran, water, and a 20-minute daily walk. Vegetables are allowed in stage two.

If this sounds familiar, its a lot like the Atkins diet. You can lose weight rapidly, as much as several pounds a day in the first phase, but dieters may get things like constipation, dry mouth, and fatigue- which all go along with low-carb, high-protein diets.

So does it work? Well, I believe a lot of people will certainly lose weight on it, probably because it cuts calories drastically- and you’re also suppose to be walking.

Give it a try if it sounds like it might be for you. Also suggest The Sixty-Second Motivator because no diet in the world can help you if you don’t stick with it! Good luck.

A book that truly lives up to it’s title!!! At long last, an author who really understands that most failed dieters don’t need information about what to eat, they need help to understand their relationship with food and identify their own personal formula for success. Dr Phil really focuses on helping us to understand why we inappropriately “medicate” and “celebrate” with food, and his straightforward “no frills” approach really hits the mark – you will truly find yourself able to appreciate healthy food, and not feel deprived in avoiding the foods and behaviours which are keeping you fat. I could not put this book down, and cannot enthuse highly enough about it – it really is an absolute must for all Dr Phil fans, and anyone who appreciates that weight control has far more to do with your mind than your plate!!! I have always liked Dr. Phil’s approach to things and was very excited to see what he had to say about the subject of weight loss. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the book. Without going into a lot of detail, the forte of this book is its emphasis on the often neglected behavioral strategies needed to lose weight. We all know to stop eating so much, but this book makes you think about such things as enlisting a circle of support and eating for emotional reasons. All in all its a great book and I give it 5 stars easy. Other self-help books I liked that overweight people might benefit from include “Treat Your Own Knees.” Cheers!

This is a great book. I have tried to diet before and always failed or sabotaged myself. I read this book and it’s changed my whole attitude. It works but you have to do the tests and write down your answers just as Dr Phill suggests. I’ve been doing this plan for 8 weeks now and I do get bad days so it’s great to go back and re-read what I’ve written. As my title says, I’ve lost 1stone 2lbs and still going strong. I’ve always had problems with motivation and visualisation and all the other “tions” buzz words that are rife in trying to achieve weight loss. What I found with this book was that it gave me the tools to achieve my goals without any buzz words or fads or unrealistic promises. He helped me get real and if you give this book a chance and follow his suggestions it can work for you.

The hype surrounding these supplements recently has been very over the top on my opinion. While I am a firm believer in health food related supplements, there are certain things that people will take from these campaigns from companies that they should be taking with a pinch of salt OR using common sense.

I take these, green tea extract (or making fresh green tea) and a few other vitamin and health supplements to counteract my slightly deficient diet and to give me a boost while trying to trim down. And I must confess to thinking it helps and the weight is coming off in what I think is a healthy way.

I advocate to anyone to drink green tea if they can possibly do it as it’s health benefits are there for everyone to see. It not only gives the body antioxidants, reduces blood pressure (technically stops it raising up in the first place from vasoconstriction but the effect in the end is the same) and also gives energy and increases metabolism. I take Acai berry to complement my other supplements and it works great for what i’m expecting from it.

What people don’t want to get sucked into the trap of is thinking this is a miracle pill that will make them look like a hollywood star overnight. The truth is that the weight loss properties of this product is dubious to say the least. What it is proven to do though is induce fibre into the diet making you regular and thus keeping you flushing undigested food from the system, it is high in vitamins, minerals and amino acids which help the body stay healthy, it contaisn omega fatty acids liek those found in fish which is great for skin and joints, and it also contains high amounts of antioxidants which are very good for the body and reducing the effects of ageing. The effects also lead to appetite suppression (but then chillies and peppers will do the same) and also reduce the effect of high blood sugars and more importantly the crash afterwards. All this isn’t an actual effect of reducing your weight but it induces a lifestyle and health benefits that cause you to lose weight.

You do however need to east healthiliy with these to gain any benefit, but don’t expect anythign extra that a well balanced diet wouldn’t, this is just a more efficient way for people to get their healthy intake when they have a busy lifestyle. Don’t expect to take one pill a day and go out and eat a whole pizza on your own and drink 10 pints and still lose weight, you won’t. Eat healthy, take you supplements and let them do the job they were designed for and they will show improvements.

I have only been taking these berries for 2 weeks and already I have found that my clothes are looser and they certainly stop my eating between meals! I would definitely recommend them to family and friends and will be ordering more when my supply has finished.

I was curious to see what the Acai Berry hype was and decided to try it myself. After taking the product twice/three times a day over 3-4 weeks I found that I lost a considerable amount of weight when combined with moderate excercise and over Christmas, when I couldn’t excercise, I did not put any weight on despite indulging. Personally, I have had no negative side effects but rather found that taking the tablets did make me feel more energised and I did sleep better.I find these tablets to be most effective when combined with a sensible eating plan and when taking regular excercise and I cannot recommend them enough if you are buying these tablets alongside starting a new fitness regime. If you are looking for a “quick fix” then I don’t think this will give the results you want, but as a long term sustainable plan the supplements are very effective. Troo Health Care are also a pleasure to use; I ordered my second shipment on the Tuesday and it arrived on Thursday. I believe this product to be very reasonably priced and I will undoubtedly be using their services whenever I need more Acai Berry supplements.
